The actor, who will be able to plug in his hybrid car into the 'green house', adds of the difference others can make, "It doesn't have to be overwhelming, there are simple things we can do."

Orlando Bloom is building an environmentally-friendly house in London.

The eco-conscious 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star revealed his plans at a pre-Oscar party in aid of the environmental organisation Global Green USA.

Orlando said: "It's as green as I can make it. It's got solar panels on the roof, energy efficient light bulbs - newer technology basically that is environmentally friendly.

"It might not be possible for everyone to live a completely green lifestyle, but we can do little things to help slow global warming.

"People could just help by unplugging their phone chargers and turning off the TV when they're not watching it.

"It doesn't have to be overwhelming, there are simple things we can do."

The 30-year-old actor arrived at the party in a plug-in hybrid car, which is powered by a combination of electricity and petrol and has large batteries that can be plugged into a standard wall socket.

Other guests at the party included Chevy Chase, James Blunt and Penelope Cruz, who Orlando is said to be dating.

LOS ANGELES - Orlando Bloom says he's building his house in London with the environment in mind.

"It's as green as I can make it," the 30-year-old British actor said Wednesday during a pre-Oscar party benefiting the environmental organization Global Green USA and its efforts to combat global climate change.

"It's got solar panels on the roof, energy efficient light bulbs _ newer technology basically that is environmentally friendly," he said after arriving in a plug-in hybrid vehicle.

Plug-in hybrids combine hybrid technology _ which uses both gasoline and electric power _ with large batteries that can be plugged into a standard wall socket.

Not everyone can live a totally green lifestyle, Bloom said, but people can start by unplugging their cell phone chargers or turning off their TVs when not in use.

"It doesn't have to be overwhelming, there are simple things we can do," he said.

The party also drew such celebrities as Penelope Cruz, Chevy Chase, James Blunt and members of Maroon 5. It kicked off a campaign to shuttle celebrities to Oscar-related events in environmentally friendly cars.
